Brother Robert Louis Harper was born into life on August 24, 1948 to Mrs. Ardessie Peters he accepted Christ as his personal savior at a early age. Robert was baptized at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. M. K .Duncan. He let his light shine so many can see his good works, praying faithfully, and taking care of his mother.
Robert was a blues singer, he also enjoyed humming to the tunes of old spirituals like “Tis The Old Ship Of Zion” and writing songs and poems. In 1966 Robert furthered his life by joining Job Corps where he studied Culinary Arts; with the inspiration of becoming a professional chef. As time went on he had gained the skills to prepare hot meals for his mother and family.
Roberts memories will forever be cherished by his devoted mother, Ardessie Peters of Bogalusa, LA; three sisters, Deborah (Melvin) of Torrence of Hattiesburg, MS, Lydia (William) Johnson of Columbia, TN, Linda (J.T.) Jones of Hattiesburg, MS; one brother, Harry (Gloria) Peters, Jr. of Gastonia, NC; three aunts, Wilene Gordon of Amite, LA, Doris Harper of Bogalusa, LA, Lois Harper of Bogalusa, LA; two uncles, Floyd Harper of Las Vegas, NV, Charles Harper of Memphis, TN; a great aunt, Larutha Booth of Bassfield, MS; one niece, Lauren Michelle Jones of Hattiesburg, MS; five nephews, Spencer Gregory (Cheryl) Torrence of Hattiesburg, MS, Saxton Torrence of Baton Rouge, LA, Gregory Lane Lawrence of Hammond, LA, Jerry Charles Richardson of Nashville, TN, Ryan Parker Lawrence of Hammond, LA; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Alex and Lou Anna Harper; two uncles, Charlie Harper, John Harper; a beloved sister, Patricia Lawrence.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at Crain & Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 2:00 - 6:00 PM followed by a family hour from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.
Funeral Service will br held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church in Bogalusa at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dr. James Magee ~ Pastor and Rev. Danny Young, Sr. ~ Officiating; Internment will follow at Bogalusa Cemetery.
